Virtual singer KAF has released the music video for “School Wars,” a standout track from her fifth album, “Transcendent Love.”
Blending fast-paced rock energy with themes of emotional pressure, identity, and self-expression, the song reveals a bold new side of KAF while expanding the emotional and musical scope that has defined her artistry.
Written and composed by Okajima Kanata, “School Wars” pairs fast-paced rock production with emotionally charged lyrics and raw emotional honesty — a track driven by pure inner impulse and youthful frustration.
The music video was directed by Sakamoto Shota, a visual creator known for his cutting-edge animation style and modern digital aesthetics. In this work, Sakamoto boldly reinterprets iconic symbols of school life — classroom desks, blackboards, and hallways — transforming them into a surreal world where nostalgia and unreality collide.
Reflecting on the concept, Sakamoto explained that the title “School Wars” made him question what pressures today’s youth are navigating.
“Back in my school days, school itself often felt restrictive,” he shared. “But today, the enemy may be something far less visible — social pressure, online atmosphere, the invisible expectations created around us. The internet itself isn’t the enemy; in many ways it’s a companion. But the unseen pressure born from it is something people constantly struggle against. I wanted to express that modern emotional tension through KAF’s singing and dance in a pop way.”
One of the video’s most striking elements is its choreography by Ide Kotaro, the creator with over 2 million followers known for blending catchy movement with surreal humor and addictive visual hooks.
His choreography balances comedic looseness with emotional intensity, creating a performance style that lingers in the viewer’s memory long after the video ends. Layering Ide’s signature energy and humor onto the universally familiar setting of “school,” the video opens KAF’s music to an even wider audience.
Ide described the choreography as intentionally “messy, awkward, but overwhelmingly alive.”
“When I first heard the song, I immediately felt the emotions and conviction inside it,” he said. “There’s something incredibly powerful about continuing forward as yourself no matter how others see you. I wanted to capture that rebellious spirit, invincibility, and clumsy determination in the choreography. KAF approached everything with complete sincerity and transformed it into something only she could express. That’s what made this such a special work.”
