South Korean boyband BTS has set a new record for most viewers for a music concert livestream, Guinness World Records announced Wednesday.
According to Guinness, 756,000 fans from more than 100 countries watched BTS’ online concert “Bang Bang Con: The Live” last June 14. The performance included a 12-song setlist and some interluding chat between the seven band members. It was livestreamed from Seoul.
“Boy With Luv” and “Just One Day” were among the hits that BTS performed in the virtual concert, which was part of the group’s seventh anniversary celebration. Due to the global lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, live performances were prohibited at the time of the gig.
“Though we may not be able to see each other at this time, we’ve been constantly striving to grow as a group,” said BTS member Jimin. “We are coping up with it pretty well so hope that you too can overcome this time by finding the small joy within,” he added.
Other than the Guinness record for most viewers of livestream concert, BTS also holds other titles including the first K-pop act to reach number one on the US album chart, best selling album in South Korea, and most Twitter engagements.
BTS is also the record holder for for the fastest time to reach one million followers on TikTok – which was only three hours and 31 minutes.
In March 2019, the BTS Army also set a record for the most used hashtag in 24 hours for #TwitterBestFandom, which was tweeted 60,055,339 times.
