Next year, the stars of Hollywood and Korea collide in “Tempest” — an eagerly anticipated spy thriller set to launch exclusively on Disney+.
Earlier today, Disney+ announced that an extended lineup of U.S. stars would be joining Korean icons Gang Dong-won (“Peninsula”) and Gianna Jun (“My Love From the Star”) in the upcoming series.
The cast includes John Cho (“Star Trek”) as the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State, Michael Gaston (“Spenser Confidential”) as the Secretary of Defense, Spencer Garrett (“Air Force One”) as U.S. President Hauser, Christopher Gorham (“The Lincoln Lawyer”) as a military contractor, as well as Joel De La Fuente (“The Man in the High Castle”), Alicia Hannah-Kim (“Cobra Kai”), Brooke Smith (“Silence of the Lambs”), Jacob Bertrand (“Cobra Kai”), Romy Rosemont (“Barry”), and Tom Lenk (“American Horror Stories”) and more.
Set in modern-day Korea, “Tempest” follows Munju, a highly accomplished diplomat and former ambassador to the United Nations, and Sanho, an international special agent, as they race to uncover the truth behind an attack that threatens the future stability of the Korean Peninsula.
In addition to today’s newly confirmed cast, “Tempest” will feature the eagerly anticipated on-screen partnership of two of Korea’s most accomplished actors — executive producer Gang Dong-won as Sanho, an enigmatic agent shrouded in a veil of secrets, and Gianna Jun as Seo Munju, a career diplomat who turns her razor-sharp intellect to uncovering the source of a lethal attack.
“Tempest” is directed by Kim Hee-won (“Queen of Tears,” “Little Women,” “Vincenzo”), co-directed by Korea’s leading martial arts director Heo Myung-haeng (“The Outlaws 4”), and written by Chung Seo-kyung (“Decision to Leave,” “The Handmaiden,” “Little Women”).
“Tempest” is one of the upcoming Korean series featured at the recent 2024 Disney Content Showcase, alongside newly announced “The Murky Stream,” starring Rowoon, Shin Ye-eun, Park Seo-ham, and Park Ji-hwan, and “The Manipulated,” starring Ji Chang-wook, D.O., Lee Kwang-soo, and Jo Yoon-soo.
In 2025, Disney+ will debut an incredible range of titles spanning a vast array of genres. In January, audiences will witness the Disney+ debut of Kim Hye-soo in “Unmasked,” followed by Park Eun-bin and Sul Kyung-gu in “Hyper Knife” in March. As the year continues, audiences will get to see more of Korea’s biggest stars feature in unmissable stories, including Kim Da-mi and Son Suk-ku in “Nine Puzzles”; Kim Soo-hyun and Jo Bo-ah in “Knock-Off”; Ryu Seung-ryong, Yang Se-jong, and Lim Soo-jung in “Low Life,” and so much more.
Stream “Tempest,” featuring Korean and Hollywood stars, next year exclusively on Disney+.
