Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” stars Kim Seon-ho, Shin Min-a, Lee Sang-yi, and PD Yoo Je-won held a press conference last August 24. The four talked about their preparations, the chemistry of the cast, and the meaning behind the intriguing title.

Stars Reveal Their Preparations in ‘Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha’ Press Conference

The main cast revealed what made them accept the offer to star in this much-awaited romantic comedy. Kim Seon-ho said he was drawn to the heartwarming story. He also felt that his role as the unemployed handyman Hong Du-sik was very human. 

Meanwhile, Shin Min-a said she wanted to return to the romcom genre and was drawn to the character of Yoon Hye-jin. She also praised the “very well-written script” of the drama.

Lee Sang-yi mentioned the trend of living in Jeju island for a month, and he said that was how he felt while reading the script. “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” is set in the seaside village of Gongjin so they shot a lot of scenes near the beach.

In terms of preparations for the drama, it seems like Kim Seon-ho had a lot to learn for his role as the handyman Hong Du-sik. He had to learn how to surf and even studied how to make coffee like a barista. When asked which among his character’s many certificates is he interested to have for real, Kim Seon-ho mentioned Hong Du-sik’s realtor license. He also found Hong Du-sik’s license as a fruit plater/food stylist quite interesting.

As for Shin Min-a, she said she visited her dentist to observe the overall atmosphere. Meanwhile, Lee Sang-yi watched a lot of TV shows, including those of variety king PD Na Young-seok. Lee Sang-yi plays the role of variety PD Ji Seong-hyun. The singer-actor is also open to participate in the OST for the drama.

The cast of “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” shared their experiences on set during the press conference. Shin Min-a said that even though she sometimes felt exhausted while on set, she felt comforted by looking at the beach.

Kim Seon-ho said he really felt like they were a part of that village as they blended in with the whole cast. He even mentioned a time when they had stomach aches after eating a lot of potatoes for a very long scene.

The main leads attribute their great chemistry to them being comfortable and friendly with each other on and off cam.

Why ‘Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha’

PD Yoo Je-won revealed in the “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” press conference the meaning behind the drama’s title. He said they wanted to bring something new to their version of “Mr. Hong” so they wanted a new title. He explained that they chose to use “cha-cha” because it’s a dance that you can’t do alone. He described it as befitting the overall chemistry of the people in the drama.

“Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” is set to premiere this August 28 and will be streamed on Netflix in the Philippines.
