All four episodes of “The Tyrant,” Kim Seon-ho’s small screen comeback, will be available starting August 14 exclusively on Disney+.
“The Tyrant” is about a virus developed by rogue scientists tired of foreign powers’ suppression of their country. Working within the South Korean government, the group develops a virus that will put their country on a level playing field with the world’s most powerful nations. Referred to as The Tyrant Project, the virus holds limitless potential for the advancement of humanity. However, before the project can be finalized, a group of U.S. agents uncover the plan and demand that all samples be handed over.
During the secret handover, however, the virus is stolen. Unwilling to give up his research, the group’s leader hires a black ops team to retrieve his work. When things go south during the attack, parties on both sides will be left scrambling to recover the virus. Both governments will go to war to get it back.
In “The Tyrant,” Kim Seon-ho (“Start-Up,” “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha”) portrays Director Choe, the leader of the secret project. Jo Yoon-soo (“True Beauty,” “Juvenile Justice”) is the vengeful assassin Chae Jag-yeong. Meanwhile, Cha Seung-won (“Our Blues,” “A Korean Odyssey”) plays the role of the cold-blooded mercenary Lim Sang. Also in the cast is Kim Kang-woo (“Le Grand Chef,” “Goodbye Mr. Black”) as U.S. intelligence agent Paul.
“The Tyrant” is written and directed by Park Hoon-jung (“New World,” “I Saw the Devil”).
