“Queen of Tears,” a romantic comedy starring Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won, is the most-searched K-drama on Google in 2024.
Ranked number seven in the TV Shows category of Google’s Year in Search 2024, “Queen of Tears” is one of only two listed Korean titles.
The other K-drama on the list is the fantasy-revenge rom-com “Marry My Husband,” starring Park Min-young and Na In-woo.
“Queen of Tears” is also Google’s number-one television show or drama series in the Philippines, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan.
In the Philippines, it topped the list for both the Shows and Series category and the Korean Series category.
“Queen of Tears” is this year’s second most-searched series in Hong Kong and the number-two foreign series in Thailand.
In Indonesia, “Queen of Tears” ranked fourth in Google’s top search trends this year and seventh in the Movies and Series searches. It also ranked fourth in the Movie category in Vietnam.
In India, “Queen of Tears” is listed as number six in the Shows category of Google’s Year in Search 2024.
Outside Asia, “Queen of Tears” emerged as a popular search in Nigeria. It ranked third in Nigeria after “My Demon.”
“Queen of Tears” is about a married couple trying to survive a crisis to stay together against all odds. Kim Ji-won plays Hong Hae-in, a third-generation heiress of a conglomerate. Kim Soo-hyun portrays Baek Hyun-woo, Hae-in’s husband and the legal director of her family’s group.
Fans eagerly followed how the wealthy department store owner and the lawyer from the province, who graduated from a prestigious university, faced challenges and fell in love again.
“Queen of Tears” ended on a high note, earning the highest viewership ratings of any K-drama in tvN history. Its final episode, which aired on April 28, scored an average nationwide rating of 24.85 percent, breaking the previous record of 21.683 percent set by the finale of the 2020 mega-hit “Crash Landing on You.”
K-drama fans also searched for “Marry My Husband,” which topped the Foreign Series category in Thailand and the Movie category in Vietnam. It placed second in the Philippines and Singapore, fifth in South Korea, seventh in India, and tenth in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, “Lovely Runner,” a fantasy rom-com featuring Byeon Woo-seok and Kim Hye-yoon, was the third most-searched TV show in the Philippines. It ranked fourth in South Korea and Singapore, fifth in Malaysia, and eighth in Taiwan.
