“Snowdrop,” “Twenty-Five, Twenty-One,” and “Business Proposal” are the top three most tweeted K-dramas in the world. This is according to the latest data from Twitter, which includes English and Korean language tweets globally from January 1 to August 18, 2022. The recently concluded “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” also made it to the list, proof of its immense popularity.
Most tweeted K-dramas
“Snowdrop,” starring Jung Hae-in and Jisoo of Blackpink, topped the list, demonstrating the correlation between K-pop and other K-content.
In 2021, there were 7.8 billion tweets related to K-pop. According to YeonJeong Kim, Head of Global K-pop and K-content Partnerships at Twitter, the appearances of K-pop stars in K-dramas and K-movies led to the surge in related tweets.
“Twitter is where K-pop is happening, and the community of K-pop fans around the world have expanded their interests to other forms of Korean content, including dramas and movies, thus globalizing K-content.”
Other most tweeted K-dramas include “Business Proposal” starring Kim Se-jeong of Gugudan, and “The Red Sleeve” starring 2PM’s Lee Junho. Meanwhile, “Our Beloved Summer” recorded the most number of tweets in a single day. This happened when the original soundtrack “Christmas Tree” by V of BTS was released.
Korean movies headlined by K-pop stars were also some of the most tweeted as fans rallied to support their idols. The list includes K-movies “Broker” starring IU and “Hansan: Rising Dragon” with Ok Taec-yeon of 2PM.
Hallyu global domination
Over the past decade, K-content on Twitter has increased by 546%. The Philippines is among the top countries with the most number of tweets about K-content, only behind South Korea, Thailand, and the United States.
The list proves that K-content is now predominant beyond Asia, expanding its fan base to North America, Europe, and Latin America.
