When it comes to unique, out-of-the-box ideas for variety shows, leave it to Korean productions to satisfy you. “The Zone: Survival Mission 2” on Disney+, starring Yoo Jae-seok, Lee Kwang-soo, and Kwon Yuri, brings escape rooms to a larger scale. It’s exciting. It’s funny. It’s everything we love about K-variety.

“The Zone: Survival Mission 2” promises to take us to different unique destinations and situations. Unique might be an understatement as the first few episodes already took us to a “haunted” hospital and a sinking island! No wonder the cast members couldn’t help but exclaim, “Ahh, Disney!” The scale is so big this season that even longtime variety show hosts Yoo Jae-seok and Lee Kwang-soo look positively overwhelmed.

Even with the bigger and what looks to be more expensive production this season, the charm of “The Zone: Survival Mission 2” on Disney+ lies heavily on the chemistry of the cast. The much-loved Yoo Jae-seok, the unwittingly funny Lee Kwang-soo, and the charming Kwon Yuri all pull their weight to give an entertaining one hour episode. Think bickering siblings in extreme situations and you know that it’s going to be funny as hell.

During the press conference for the show, Director Choi Hyo-jin talked about how the chemistry of the trio has become more natural this season. It’s obvious how much more in sync they are now not just with completing their missions but also with their humor. Fans will definitely have a good laugh as the trio tease each other endlessly.

Bigger, bolder, funnier

With three episodes up, we’ve already seen the cast scream their lungs out inside a “haunted” hospital and even play golf on a rapidly sinking island. And it doesn’t end there because the next episodes promise to test the cast members’ courage even more. We all know they’re wimps, of course, and that’s part of what makes the show all the more entertaining.
