We will finally know the secrets that lie beneath the surface of a tranquil lakeside on “The Trunk,” a mystery melodrama starring Seo Hyun-jin and Gong Yoo.

Premiering November 29 on Netflix, “The Trunk” is directed by Kim Kyu-tae (“Our Blues,” “It’s Okay, That’s Love”) and written by Park Eun-young (“Hwarang”). Based on Kim Ryeo-ryeong’s novel of the same name, the story follows a secretive marriage service accompanied by a mysterious trunk.

Noh In-ji (Seo Hyun-jin), an employee at NM (New Marriage), finds herself deeply alone despite her job of living with a “contract husband” every year. Meanwhile, Han Jeong-won (Gong Yoo) enters into this contract marriage in an ironic attempt to preserve his previous marriage. This strange and precarious relationship offers a glimpse into the series’ exploration of the complex emotions of characters involved in the “marriage” — love, compassion, obsession, desire, loneliness, and emptiness — and portrays the various depths of their relationships.

Netflix recently released the poster and the teaser trailer of “The Trunk.”

In the poster, Noh In-ji is seen entering Han Jeong-won’s home with a striking trunk, set against a backdrop of a spiral staircase and a cold, glamorous atmosphere. Meanwhile, the teaser trailer introduces the “contract couple” embarking on a loveless marriage, guided by a manual. It also hints at the mysterious relationship between Han Jeong-won and his ex-wife, leaving viewers curious about their past. As they grapple with their roles and the secrets that bind them, what truths will emerge from this setup?

Stream the “The Trunk,” starring Seo Hyun-jin and Gong Yoo, on Netflix starting November 29.
