“Jirisan,” an iQiyi Original Korean drama series starring Gianna Jun and Ju Ji-hoon, offered a behind-the-scenes look into last weekend’s episodes 5 and 6.
Gianna Jun’s “NG” scenes brought roaring laughter on set, especially in the scene with Ju Ji-hoon, Oh Jung-se, and Cho Han-cheul where she delivered all her lines before her co-stars could speak. Oh Jung-se mused that he had lines yet to be heard, while Ju Ji-hoon joked, “The three of us just froze in an instant.” The production team even affectionately called Gianna Jun a “script greed.”
In shooting the latest episodes, the cast members each had physically demanding action scenes. Gianna Jun and Oh Jung-se, for example, ascended Jirisan for location shoots. Ever the consummate professional, Gianna Jun always delivered soul and just the right tone to her lines. Ju Ji-hoon was seen racing through the snow and fighting to subdue the suspect in scenes that left him utterly exhausted. Ju Min-gyung was seen struggling after being poisoned. Oh Jung-se repeatedly tapped her face to revive her, so she burst out laughing when the director cut the shoot.
Oh Jung-se and Ju Min-gyung Are New Favorites in ‘Jirisan’ Episodes 5 and 6
In “Jirisan” episodes 5 and 6, Gianna Jun and Ju Ji-hoon are the best of partners in the 2018 timeline. Meanwhile, Gianna Jun and Go Min-si in the 2020 timeline become trusted senior-junior partners. Go Min-si is also the communication link between Gianna Jun and Ju Ji-hoon in his spirit form. As a trio, they work together in surprising ways. In addition, a new park ranger couple emerged as Oh Jung-se confessed his feelings to Ju Min-gyung. They then enjoyed a romantic winter day out to warm the otherwise tense and suspenseful story.
Blue Dragon Film Award-winning actor Ryu Seung-ryong opened the series to take viewers into Jirisan National Park in the first episode. Sun Sok-ku played Gianna Jun’s first love who reappeared after years and concluded their ambiguous relationship. Park Hwan-hee, who once played a sweet nurse in Descendants of the Sun, plays the part of a climber persisting to find a lost lottery ticket.
Created by director Lee Eung-bok (“Descendants of The Sun,” “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God”) and writer Kim Eun-hee (“Signal,” “Kingdom”), “Jirisan” follows the team of national park rangers responsible for search and rescue on Jirisan. Star ranger Seo Yi-gang (Gianna Jun) and rookie Kang Hyun-jo (Ju Ji-hoon) are set to unravel the secrets of the peak.
The iQiyi Original K-series becomes available worldwide every Saturday and Sunday on iQiyi International app or iQ.com at 8:00 p.m., the same time it airs in Korea.
