“House of Ninjas,” an adventure series about a ninja clan in present-day Japan, will stream on Netflix starting February 15.
What if ninjas were still secretly undertaking missions in modern society? The series, which stars Kaku Kento Kento, also its co-executive producer, is about the Tawara family, the last ninja clan that abandoned its roots after a particular mission. They need to emerge from retirement to address the biggest crisis Japan has ever seen. The string of looming threats can shake the nation to its core.
In “House of Ninjas,” Kaku is Haru, the second son of the Tawara family. Haru is an elite ninja with unrivaled skills, but his kindness led to disaster and a great trauma that continues to haunt him.
Eguchi Yosuke plays the role of Haru’s father Soichi, while Kimura Tae is his mother Yoko. Meanwhile, Kora Kengo is Haru’s older brother Gaku, and Makita Aju is his older sister Nagi. For her part, Miyamoto Nobuko is the siblings’ mysterious grandmother Taki, who watches the family from the shadows.
Yoshioka Riho plays magazine reporter Ito Karen, who covered the incident involving the Tawaras that happened six years ago. Taguchi Tomorowo is Hamashima Jin, a government official who works behind the scenes to prevent a national crisis. Emoto Tokio plays Oki Masamitsu, a newbie in Hamashima’s organization who uses high-tech equipment in his ninja activities.
Other cast members include Pierre Taki as Omi Zensuke, a detective investigating a series of mysterious robberies; Shimada Kyusaku as Kuze Kosaku, the leader of a cleaning crew who is tasked by Hamashima to cover the ninjas’ tracks; and Tsutsui Mariko, who plays Mukai Toko, the ruling party’s policy chief who was once rescued by the Tawara family.
Also in the cast is Banka Tenta, who plays Riku, the third son of the Tawaras. Riku is the only member of the family who does not know that they are ninjas.
Viewers will find out what crisis threatens Japan, and how the Tawara family — the last ninja clan that turned its back on its heritage — will face this threat.
Directed by American director Dave Boyle, the series fuses top-secret spy action with a family drama full of colorful characters. “House of Ninjas” starts streaming worldwide on February 15, only on Netflix.
