For many Asian drama enthusiasts in the Philippines, “Meteor Garden” was the drama that started it all. Back in 2001 and for many years after, the story of F4 and Shan Cai captured the hearts of many and Philippine TV has never been the same again.
Jerry Yan (Dao Ming Si)
Jerry Yan has made the headlines recently for his viral topless scene in his new drama “Count Your Lucky Stars.” He stars opposite the 23-year-old Shen Yue who played Shan Cai in the 2018 remake of “Meteor Garden.” Despite the huge age gap, people seem to be unbothered as Jerry Yan still looks every inch the heartthrob that he is. 43 never looked so good.
As for his personal life, Jerry Yan is the only F4 member who hasn’t been married yet. The actor previously dated Taiwanese actress Li Chi-ling.
Vic Chou (Hua Ze Lei)
Vic Chou is set to star in the historical drama “Poetry of the Song Dynasty.” He was last seen in the 2018 dramas “Beauties in the Closet,” and “The Flame’s Daughter.”
Van Ness Wu (Mei Zuo)
After making a mark as a judge in “Asia’s Got Talent,” Van Ness moved on to do more TV shows and films. He last starred in the 2019 Hong Kong martial arts film “IP Man 4: The Finale.”
In 2018, Van Ness Wu divorced from his wife, the Singaporean socialite Arissa Cheo, after five years of marriage.
Ken Chu (Xi Men)
Among the F4 members, Ken Chu is the least active in showbiz, appearing in Chinese variety programs every now and then. In 2016, he revealed that he was suffering from a disorder called fybromyalgia, “characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues.” Ken further explained that his weight gain was a side effect of the medication that he was taking.
Despite a seemingly lackluster showbiz career, Ken Chu is now happily married to Chinese actress Vivien Han Wenwen.
Barbie Hsu (Shan Cai)
After her marriage in 2010, the original Shan Cai has semi-retired from her acting career. She is now a mother of two and owns a 4-star hotel in Taipei with her husband.
YouTuber Victoria Pendatun shared her story on how she accidentally met Barbie Hsu at S Hotel. The actress was even gracious enough to take a picture with her. How lucky!
Almost two decades have passed since “Meteor Garden” first aired but for many Pinoy fans, their love for F4 and Shan Cai lives on.
