There hasn’t been a renewal announcement yet but the Netflix series “The Silent Sea” needs a season 2 to answer all our burning questions.

Deadly Space Mission

Gong Yoo, Bae Doona, and more go on a deadly mission on the moon

Here’s a spoiler-free plot for those who haven’t seen the 8-episode series yet. “The Silent Sea,” starring Gong Yoo and Bae Doona, is a sci-fi thriller set in a dystopian future. The earth is suffering from lack of water and food. Water is rationed out depending on social status. Governments and corporations scramble to find a possible solution.

Gong Yoo is Han Yoon-jae, the chief of the exploration team. Their mission is to recover a sample from an abandoned research station on the moon. Bae Doona is Dr. Song Ji-an, an astrobiologist who joins the team. She’s determined to uncover the truth behind the supposed accident at the Balhae Base research station where her sister died.

Recovering a sample with limited information is only the tip of the iceberg. The team encounters more challenges as they land on the moon.

Burning Questions for ‘The Silent Sea’ Season 2 (Warning: Spoilers ahead)

“The Silent Sea” has become a Netflix hit so it wouldn’t be a surprise if it gets picked up for season 2. Those unresolved plot elements make us think that the creator purposely left them for the sequel.

Bae Doona as Dr. Song Ji-an with Kim Si-a as Luna 073

Dr. Song comes up with a plan to bring Luna and the lunar water samples to the International Institute of Space Biology. She believes that the institute will be a better place to continue the research and where Luna can be safe. However, it isn’t clear how they’ll be able to do this as their rescue ship arrives. Meanwhile, it isn’t clear if Han Yoon-jae is really dead but that’s probably just us hoping to see Gong Yoo return.

If “The Silent Sea” season 2 pushes through, the plot will surely revolve around securing Luna. The transnational corporation RX will most probably stop at nothing to get her as the mutant child holds the key to possibly saving the earth.

“The Silent Sea” is streaming on Netflix.
