What makes a good partner? Jang Nara and Nam Ji-hyun play divorce lawyers with opposing personalities in “Good Partner” on Viu. Jang Nara is Cha Eunkyung, a feisty veteran lawyer, who doesn’t mince words. Meanwhile, Nam Ji-hyun is rookie lawyer Han Yuri, who is dead set on maintaining her idealistic principles.
With their characters constantly clashing, it seems like it’s impossible to describe each other as a “good partner.” However, this drama might just prove that polar opposites, in fact, complement each other.
In an email interview for Hallyu Dorama, the stars of “Good Partner,” Jang Nara and Nam Ji-hyun, share the charming points of their characters and what makes their divorce drama stand out.
What are the charming points of your character?
Jang Nara: The character is cold on the outside but warm inside. Despite seeming unfeeling, there’s a bit of a slightly clumsy side that makes Chan Eunkyung charming.
Nam Ji-hyun: The greatest charm of Yuri is her unconditional sincerity towards others. She might seem frustrating or naive at times, but her true value will be revealed more in the latter part of the drama. I find it very interesting how her initial conflicts with Eunkyung gradually evolve into a supportive and grateful relationship as the story progresses.
Can you tell us more about your first impressions about each other and have those changed after working on this project?
Jang Nara: My first impression of Nam Ji-hyun was genuinely positive. She gave off a very kind and wholesome aura, and during the script reading, I could tell she was a really talented colleague.
Nam Ji-hyun: When I saw Jang Nara sunbae in the media, I already thought she seemed like a warm and kind person, and when I met her in person, there wasn’t much difference. As we’ve been filming more, her existing charm has been complemented by cuteness, simplicity, warmth, and sincerity, making it a real joy to work with her.
There have been other series that deal with divorce law. How is your drama different?
Jang Nara: Our drama distinguishes itself by showcasing the growth of the protagonists through numerous cases. It’s not just about divorce but also delves into family, which is a unique aspect of our show.
Nam Ji-hyun: I think the biggest difference is that the writer is a real divorce lawyer. This drama shows that situations we might find hard to believe are actually real, that people going through such issues are closer to our lives than we might think, and that there are people struggling to solve these problems. I like that the drama focuses on the struggles and challenges of people in professional roles, showing that even experts have their own difficulties and hardships.
Can you give us any TMI on set?
Jang Nara: I can’t think of any specific TMI, but the work-life balance is excellent. The directors put in a lot of effort, and the staff are incredibly dedicated, making the work environment very efficient. It’s a set where focus comes naturally, and I love it.
Nam Ji-hyun: Apart from the storyline of the drama, the actual shooting set was filled with affection and brightness! Even if the content is serious and sad, the journey to the set is always fun and exciting. Because of the mutual care and consideration among the team, we can express the drama’s content even better.
